1. Haflong

Haflong is the headquarters of Dima Hasao the most fascinating site in the entire region. Breathtaking hills crowned with green trees and the railway track passing over it makes a picture-perfect scenery. Breathtaking views of the nearby valley can be seen from the top of Borail hill. Haflong lake is another stunning man-made lake constructed during the time of the British. It’s a wonderful place to spend an evening gazing at the fish or enjoy boating. 

Haflong is also home to many stunning waterfalls you can hire a local guide and explore the hidden waterfalls. 

Fiangpui church is the oldest and largest church in this district which is worth a visit. Fiangpui garden is another beautiful garden at the top of a hill.

Old circuit house is a must-stop attraction from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the valley and the Borail range. A perfect place to capture the most instagrammable photos. The circuit house is also a marvellous heritage bungalow from the Britishers time.

Dima Hasao is the best place to explore and experience the simple and traditional lifestyle of people. This place has a rich cultural heritage and is home to various tribes such as Kuki, Zeme naga, Dimasa etc. You can also visit traditional villages and relish the delicious foods cooked simply using local ingredients. In Thuruk village you can experience mild snowfall in the winter months , it is around 42 km away from Haflong town. 

2. Jatinga

known for the bird suicide phenomenon it is a famous destination for bird lovers. Different species of migratory birds arrive from various parts of the world to this place from August to early November.

Several viewpoints are constructed in this area to observe birds. Renowned as the ‘valley of death for birds’, it is located around 9 km from Haflong town on the Lamding- Silchar road. In between October and November in the winter months, migratory birds from various part of the world fly to Jatinga and hit lighting objects in foggy months of November and December.

3. Umrangso

Umrangso is a spectacular paradise located 112 km from Haflong and 134 km from Shillong in Meghalaya. It is located on the border of Assam and Meghalaya. Umrangso lake and Kopili Hydro Electric Project of NEPCO are the top charms of this area. You can experience boating, camping and staying in a luxury houseboat here. This place is beautifully constructed by Dima Hasao tourism development corporation.  

A hot water spring and stunning golf course are also located nearby. Around 30 km away from Umrangso town Miyungma Daogah waterfall is an eye-catching waterfall.

4. Maibang

Maibang is the ancient capital of Kachari kingdom. You can see the ancient stone houses constructed by the Kachari king here.

5. Panimur waterfall

Located on the way to Dima Hasao it is a stunning waterfall on the river Kapili, one of the biggest waterfalls in Assam. It is the perfect spot for picnic and adventure tourism. Apart from this Koka waterfalls is another pleasing waterfall located nearby in the Karbi Along district.

How to reach Dima Hasao

Dima Hasao is located in the south of Assam nearing Karbi along, Nagaon, Silchar and Manipur on the east. The headquarter of Dima Hasao Haflog is located 350 km from Guwahati.  

By road: The road to Haflong passes through picturesque hills, forests and road tunnels. Though bumpy in some parts it’s a scenic and enjoyable road trip. It takes around 8-10 hrs (350 km) to reach Haflong by road from Guwahati the capital of Assam.

By train: Several trains are frequented to Haflong from Guwahati and nearby cities. 

The newest addition Vistadome tourist train is the best option to visit Haflong. It travels twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday. The train starts at 6.35 am from  Guwahati and reach New Haflong at 11.55 am. The journey covers in 5 hr 20 min by the vistadome train. Apart from this several other trains are available to Haflong from Guwahati.

Best time to visit Dima Hasao

 Dima Hasao has a mild temperature all around the year. The best time to visit this place is summer and spring when the weather is very pleasant.

Winter is also a pleasant time to feel the cool and soothing climate. It is covered with fog in winters.

Apart from this one can also visit Haflong during Judima Festival and Falcon festival to explore local traditions and the great biodiversity of this place.
