FAQ of Nagaland Tour

Longwa is a Konyak tribal village in Mon district where the village chief's (Angh's) house straddles the India-Myanmar border — one room is in India, the other in Myanmar. The Konyak tribe here maintains living traditions of headhunting culture, including elder men with distinctive facial tattoos, traditional long-barrel guns, and elaborate ceremonial necklaces made from human skulls. These elders are among the last in the world carrying this specific cultural heritage. A visit to the Angh's house, take photographs of tattooed tribes, buy and see their wood craft are the centerpiece of the Mon section of this tour.

Yes. Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Nagaland. Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) — mandatory since March 2025. Nexplore arranges all permits on your behalf. Processing: 1–2 working days for ILP, 5–7 working days for PAP. On arrival in Nagaland, foreign nationals must register with the District Superintendent of Police (FRO) within 24 hours — your guide accompanies you to complete this formality as part of your arrival transfer. Both permits are included in the package price.

Yes — when done responsibly. The Konyak community in Mon district actively welcomes cultural tourism as a sustainable income source and a way to preserve their heritage through outside interest. Nexplore works with local guides who are from the community, pays entry fees directly to the village, and follows the community's own guidelines for visitor conduct.

Khonoma is an picturesque Angami Naga village 20 km from Kohima, regarded as Asia's first green village — a title earned through decades of community-led conservation of its surrounding forests and wildlife. The village banned hunting in its community forests in 1998, protecting what is now the Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary. A visit to Khonoma combines a beautiful village walk, a trek to the sangbah (community forest), Fort and Murung visit and a guided history of Angami resistance during the Battle of Kohima in WWII.

October to March is ideal. December is peak season — ideal for combining with the Hornbill Festival (December 1–10 in Kohima, which can be added to this itinerary). January and February are the quietest months with the clearest weather and least-crowded village visits. February has the Sekrenyi Festival of the Angami tribe. Avoid June to September when Nagaland roads — particularly in Mon district — become difficult due to heavy rainfall and potential landslides.
