How to reach Assam

The major airport in Assam is the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, which is located at a distance of 25km from Guwahati. The airport links to major Indian metropolis with daily flights. Jet Airways, Indigo airlines, spice jet airlines, Jetlite airlines connect Guwahati to Delhi, Kolkata, Agartala, Bagdogra, Kohima and other major cities of India. Other airports in Assam are at Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tezpur and Silchar. Regular flights are also available from these airports. Helicopter services are operated from Guwahati to Shillong, Tura, Naharlagun, and Tawang.


The Northeast Frontier Railway zone of the Indian Railways connects Assam with the rest of the country. Guwahati is the railway headquarters of the Northeast Frontier Railway. There are direct train services from Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore to Guwahati. All cities of Assam are connected by frequent railway service.

Assam has a well-connected network of national highways and other roads to different cities and towns in and around the state. The State Transport and other private operators run daily bus services for all cities of Assam and to neighboring states Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. The National Highway Number 37, 31, 39, 40, 38 and 52 connects Assam with other states in India.
