How to reach Tawang

Reaching Tawang, a picturesque town nestled in the Eastern Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh, requires a journey through stunning landscapes and rugged terrains. The most common route to Tawang is by road, starting from Tezpur in Assam. Guwahati to Tawang:

Travelling to Tawang by road is an exhilarating adventure that offers breathtaking views and a memorable journey through the Eastern Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh. One of the highlights of the road trip is crossing the iconic Sela Pass, situated at an altitude of over 13,000 feet above sea level. Best option to reach Tawang from Guwahati is to hire a vehicle from Guwahati city. Two different road leads to Tawang from Guwahati. One is through Tezpur - Nameri and another is via Orang - Kalaktang. If you plan to visit from Guwahati the second root is the best option. It's advisable to halt at Dirang or Bomdila on your way due to pathetic road condition in some places as well as high altitude of the region. Tezpur to Tawang bus service:

Buses ply regularly between Tezpur (Assam) and Tawang via Dirang and Bomdila. It takes about 12 hours to reach Tawang from Tezpur.

Arunachal State Transport runs buses to Bomdila from Tezpur on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and the journey time is 8 hrs. Private buses also run daily via Bomdila to and from Tezpur.

By Railways

Tezpur and Guwahati are the major railheads closest to Tawang located respectively 319 km and 450 km away. You can avail Buses, private taxis or Sumo to reach Tawang from Tezpur or Guwahati.

By Air
