There are plenty of places of tourist attraction in this hilly town. For those who like being on top of the world must have a look at the famous Khayang Peak which is the highest peak which is located at 3114 m from the sea level. In order to have a look at the world famous Siroy Lily you have to visit The Shirui Kashong peak. Several botanist and tourists from across the globe come to see this prized flower which blossoms on hill top in the months of May and June.

Located at a distance of 15 kms from the East of Ukhrul is Khangkhui cave (Mangsor). The cave has 2 large chambers and 5 tunnels. This splendid cave is made up of natural limestone. Close to the Khayang fall is the Kachouphung lake which is the abode of some of the most colourful fishes. One more wonderful place to see is the Nillai Tea Estate which is the green tea growing garden. The unique quality of this tea is that it gives its real flavour when it is boiled for the second time. The lush greenery of the tea estate is mind blowing.

Visit the oval Waithou Lake which is close by in the Thoubal District. The best part of the lake is the pineapple slopes. Tourists can enjoy fun activities like boating, angling etc. The sad part is that pollution and urbanisation have hampered the beauty of this lake. Located on the Indo- Myanmar border is the famous Yangoupokpi-Lokchao Wildlife sanctuary which was established in 1989 and is known for varied types of natural life. Accommodation for overnight halt is available in the rest houses of Forest Rest House and Transit Camp Wildlife Office.

The district of Ukhrul experiences moderate summers and the temperatures can go up to 30 degrees Celsius.

The coldest months of the district are December and January and the temperature of the hill station comes down drastically.

How to reach Ukhrul

The distance between Ukhrul and the capital of Manipur that is Imphal is about 84 kms. Ukhrul is connected with Imphal through highway NH 150. Tourists first need to reach Imphal which is well connected by road, rail and air. From Imphal they can travel to Ukhrul through passenger bus or car. It takes about 3 hours to reach Ukhrul from Imphal by road.

The nearest railhead is Dimapur which is at a distance of 229 kms.
