Planning to take a break from your hectic schedule and want to explore the stunning place which is close to Mother Nature, then Dzukou Valley is the one. It is also known as the Valley of Flowers of the North-Eastern state. It takes its name from the Angami or Mao which refers to the ice-cold stream flowing through the valley. Dzukou Valley’s lion share lies in Manipur but some of its encroached areas are bordering with Nagaland too and is located behind the Japfu peak. The etymology consists of the Angami tribe who are the inhabitants of this valley.
What one needs to know about the Dzukou Valley ?
It is covered with rare Dzukou Lily which is found only in this valley as it is popularly known for its flora and fauna and people experiences peace here. However, the best time to visit the place is from June to September, as being a solo traveler, I would really recommend from my experience. During this time, valley is in full bloom with the flowers like lilies and the wild rhododendrons. It is advisable to avoid the visit to the valley from November to December as the sudden drop in temperature causes problem for the tourists and one should also carry warm clothing.
One can get to the valley through the base area, for which I reached Dimapur first which is connected with rail and air and then got a bus to Kohima, capital of Nagaland. After reaching, one can book a cab to Viswema Village which is 25 kms from the area or to Zakhama which is at a distance of 20 kms to enjoy the natural scenic view.
